Discover Our Commitment to Community and Sustainability
About Corofin Community Hall — the story of a building that has supported local life in Corofin and North Clare for more than eighty years. From its beginnings in the 1940s to its modern redevelopment, the hall has remained a central place for social, cultural and educational activity.
Moreover, the facility continues to evolve through community-led management and sustainable investment.
Origins in the 1940s

Corofin Community Hall was originally known as St Patrick’s Hall. Construction began in September 1944 and finished in late 1945. At the time, several parochial halls were built across the Diocese of Killaloe.

Much of the stone used came from the ruins of the Corofin Union Workhouse in Newtown. In addition, local tradespeople and volunteers provided significant labour. The hall officially opened with a dance in February 1946.
Looking to the Future
Today, Corofin Community Hall operates as a shared community resource for North Clare. Ongoing improvements focus on energy efficiency, solar panels and rainwater harvesting. As a result, the hall remains accessible, adaptable and sustainable for future generations.

Education & Changing Times
After a schoolhouse fire in 1949, classrooms operated from rooms in the hall until a new school opened in 1958.
During the 1970s and 1980s, improvement works included re-roofing, central-heating installation and relocating the stage to the rear of the building. However, changing entertainment patterns later reduced use. By 2004, the hall required major repairs.
Redevelopment & Community Ownership
Corofin Hall and Amenities Forum (CHAF) formed in 2006 following local consultation. A major redevelopment began in 2013, supported by LEADER funding, parish contributions and a Clann Credo loan.
The hall reopened in 2015 and has continued to invest in sustainability upgrades. Importantly, all redevelopment-related debt was cleared by the end of 2024.
